An explosion suspected to have been caused by a gas leak took place early Monday morning at a residential building in Dalian, Northeast China's Liaoning Province, leaving three dead and eight injured, all of whom have been sent to a local hospital for emergency treatment.
The relevant departments rushed to the scene at Dalian's Jinpu New District to deal with the incident, local authorities said in an announcement posted online.

Experts warned that the period before the Chinese New Year is usually a peak time for production safety accidents, as many companies try to speed up their production schedules.
On January 10, a fatal goldmine blast occurred in Qixia, East China's Shandong Province, trapping 22 miners underground for two weeks.
Another gas explosion took place at a factory workshop in North China's Tianjin Municipality, which left at least one dead and seven injured on January 14.
