Beijing's legislature is mulling local legislation on infectious diseases prevention and treatment, and legislators in the Chinese capital have voted to pass 10 health related laws since the COVID-19 outbreak in early 2020.
Li Wei, Chairman of the Standing Committee of Beijing Municipal People's Congress, said that the legislature planned to revise and formulate public health related legislation based on shortcomings in the field, and vowed to pass 20 related laws in the next two years.
Beijing has passed regulations on emergency response to public health emergencies, covering emergency preparedness, monitoring and early warning. Beijing also formulated regulations on protection and management of wildlife, expanding the types of animals that it is forbidden to eat, and strictly controlling hunting.
So far, the local legislature has passed 10 of the 20 laws, and some other legislation including regulation on infectious diseases prevention and treatment and regulation on blood donations have come under discussion.
