Another batch of whey powder samples imported from Ukraine by a food company in North China’s Tianjin tested positive for COVID-19 after nucleic acid testing, Tianjin authorities said on Friday night.

Seventeen samples of Ukrainian whey powder were tested positive for COVID-19 in North China's Tianjin on Thursday, and the result was still positive on Friday’s double check, the authorities said.

The products did not enter into Tianjin market.

The related food, packaging, and external environment of the goods were once again covered for sampling testing and disinfection. A total of 204 samples were collected, and the nucleic acid test results were all negative.

Three persons at risk of exposure and 31 other employees of the company were quarantined, and their nucleic acid test results were all negative, the authorities said.

It is the second time the city found such a case.

The Global Times reported on January 14 that three samples of ice cream made from New Zealand-sourced milk powder and Ukrainian dried whey tested positive for COVID-19 in Tianjin. The company has been cordoned off and tracking of the sold products is ongoing.
