China's capital city has vowed to apply comprehensive measures to face the challenge of COVID-19 in the upcoming Chinese New Year, including strictly controlling those entering Beijing to avoid imported cases.
The city faces a challenge from the Spring Festival rush so big efforts will be made, according to a meeting of the administrative group for curbing COVID-19 on Wednesday, the Beijing Daily reported. The meeting was attended by Beijing Party Chief Cai Qi.
Beijing must strictly guard against the risk from overseas imported cases and strictly enforce the "14+7+7" measures for arrivals. The city will strictly control people who transfer from a third country into Beijing, and promptly impose circuit breakers for flights if multiple COVID-19 cases are detected. It will continue to monitor imported goods strictly and strengthen the service management for quarantined personnel.
Beijing will continue the nucleic acid tests for key industries and will enhance health supervision in rural areas.
The city will promote the vaccination work and strict safety management of all kinds of biological laboratories.
Many people working in Beijing have chosen to stay in the city during the holiday to help curb the spread of the coronavirus. Companies have been encouraged to issue incentives to stay and to distribute holiday gift bags for employees.
Merchants, whether online or offline, have also been encouraged not to close their business during the holiday to provide various services.
However, setting off fireworks is still strictly prohibited this year due to pollution concerns.
