A 6-year-old girl riding a scooter was knocked down and killed by a car in a residential compound in Shanghai on Sunday.
According to surveillance camera footage, the car was initially parked on the roadside, and started moving slowly before hitting the girl, surnamed Deng, who was riding a scooter by the vehicle.
The tragedy happened right in front of the girl's mother, who was unaware the danger. The girl was rushed to hospital, but later announced dead.
Before the accident, the 32-year-old driver, surnamed Zhang, drove the car into the old compound with narrow and crowded roads, and parked there just for a little while.
Zhang has been controlled by the local police and the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
