Schools across the country ushered in the new semester on Monday by teaching Party history to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) this year.

Some elementary and middle schools in Beijing arranged for students to take part in various patriotic activities themed on the history of the CPC, including reading books, singing songs and watching movies or documentaries in class.

“We hope students can acquire a sense of respecting role models and inheriting the spirit of the CPC from these activities,” Zhang Yan, the principal of Peixin Primary School in Beijing’s Dongcheng district, told media.

Jingyuan School in Beijing’s Shijingshan district celebrated the 100th anniversary of the CPC at a ceremony on school opening day, the Global Times learned on Monday.

Yuquan Primary School and the 11th Middle School in Beijing invited outstanding Party members and old alumni to give Party lessons as the first lesson for students in the new semester, while some 350,000 students from Beijing’s Mentougou district were also taught about CPC history as their first lessons.

Northeast China’s Liaoning Province encouraged schools in the region to launch the first lessons of the new semester with the theme of “learning CPC history and being a newcomer of the times.” The “first lesson” activities will be launched in universities across Liaoning starting from March 4.

Quannan county in East China’s Jiangxi Province organized teachers to teach CPC history as their first lesson on campus. “Our teachers will strengthen patriotism in teaching, and guide students to establish beliefs of loving the Party and supporting the Party,” said Cui Zhuilin, the principal of Longyuanba School in Quannan county.
