A number of universities in Beijing have launched vaccination campaigns during the weekend in a bid to speed up herd immunity. This is part of the accelerated national immunization campaign which targets to inoculate 40 percent of the population by June.

According to a statement from Beijing Jiaotong University, about 22,000 people will be vaccinated in the university, including undergraduate and graduate students aged 18 to 59, as well as some faculty members who have not been vaccinated previously. The campaign requires all first doses to be spread over six days.

To vaccinate thousands of people, the Communication University of China set up 10 registration stations and 5 vaccination sites on their campus.

As of noon on Monday, 400 students, faculty and staff from the Communication University of China and the Beijing International Studies University had been vaccinated. It is reported that more than 18,000 college students in the local community will get vaccinated.

Universities have been extensively promoting vaccination and public education to catch up with the national goal of including more people in the immunity plan, as soon as possible.

The Global Times learned that some other universities in Beijing including Tsinghua University, Peking University and Renmin University of China have also started vaccinating students on campus.
