China's Ministry of Education will give full support to the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in promoting curriculum reforms and carrying out national security education in schools, in response to some people's doubts and rejections of national education in recent times.

During the press conference of the State Council Information Office on Wednesday, the ministry assured the public of its joint efforts and measures with the HKSAR government in promoting relevant curriculum reforms, carrying out education on national security in schools, organizing education activities on national conditions, and constantly expanding and deepening personnel exchanges, scientific research cooperation and joint trainings between teachers and students from Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland.

To establish and improve an education system compatible with the principle of "one country, two systems," it is necessary to foster national awareness and patriotism among young people in Hong Kong, Song Demin, vice minister of education, said during the press briefing.

"We hope that education in Hong Kong will continue to develop. In particular, better results are expected to be achieved in strengthening education on China's Constitution and the Basic Law of the HKSAR, on national conditions, and on Chinese history and culture among adolescents," Song said.

Song added that the ministry will continue to provide more opportunities and convenience for adolescents in Hong Kong to visit the mainland for exchange, study and development, and help them better achieve personal growth and prosperity in the overall development of the country.

As China's sixth National Security Education Day on April 15 approaches, the HKSAR government has set up a special social media platform to promote national security education among the public.

An opening ceremony and themed lectures will be hosted by the HKSAR committee for safeguarding national security that day. Celebrities from the mainland and Hong Kong will deliver speeches covering areas such as politics, territory, military, economy, overseas interests and security.

A series of activities including competitions and exhibitions will be held as well to help the public understand the importance of "National Security Education Day" and safeguarding national security.
