The Communist Party of China (CPC) on Wednesday shared the achievements of East China's Zhejiang Province in practicing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. The event was jointly organized by the International Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the CPC.
Several ambassadors to China and nearly 400 political party representatives from more than 70 countries, participated in person or via video link to learn about how Zhejiang, one of the most developed Chinese provinces, pursues high-quality growth and improve people's livelihood under the Party's guidance.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC in Zhejiang where the Party's first National Congress was held in 1921. "For 100 years, seeking happiness for the people of China and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation has become a gene of the CPC, as well as a grand blueprint of the Party to lead China from poverty and weakness to prosperity and strength," said Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, at the Wednesday event.
Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC [in 2012], the Party's Central Committee has been unswervingly putting the people first, adopting and adhering to the concepts of innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared development, leading China to achieve an unprecedented progress in development, Song noted.
In Zhejiang, the local Party organizations and governments have been incorporating the development concepts and have largely benefited local residents. At the event, six people from all walks of life, from grassroot CPC members at local villages and communities, to Chinese and foreign entrepreneurs, shared their personal stories of working and living in the province.
One of them was Mohammad Falah Nasser, from Jordan, who owns a trading firm in Zhejiang's Yiwu city, a globally renowned commodities hub. The considerate service of the government made him feel at home in Yiwu, where "foreigners are not treated as foreign," he said at the event, noting that foreigners are often invited to give opinions and suggestions to local government public services, which makes him feel very warm.
Zhang Xiaohong, the secretary of a CPC community level organization in Zhejiang's Shaoxing city, shared the effort that she and other Party members and volunteers of the community made in the fight against COVID-19. During the peak of the epidemic, they conducted temperature checks, delivered daily necessities and other services for the convenience of the 715 households in quarantine at the community. "In order to save time, we ate instant noodles and only took a nap on desks when felt exhausted," Zhang recalled.
"Because of the hard work of the community workers, the selfless dedication of the Party members and the joint efforts of every resident, our community finally won the battle against COVID-19," Zhang added.
Several foreign attendees, including Essam Abdel-Aziz Sharaf, former Prime Minister of Egypt, and Jacques Cheminade, Chairman of Solidarity and Progress Party in France, shared their opinions at the event online. They spoke highly of the achievements of the CPC-led China has made, such as the control of the COVID-19 pandemic and poverty alleviation.
The Party's long term strategic vision, a series of medium and long term development plans it formulated and the unremitting efforts toward the set goals it has made, are the key factors for China to achieve the marvelous economic and social development, they remarked.
